Bola never noved away from Cuba.
Benny Moré died so early that no
one can swear what his destiny would
have been in later phases of the revolucion.
Other Cuban artists chose exile, whitout
breaking their powerful ties to the island
and its music. Celia Cruz and Mongo
Santamaria triumphed in New York, bu t
always refired back to their common
heritage, and Mongo had "approved by
the government of Cuba"-stamped on his
records. The musicians preserved the unity
of Cuban culture while other were tearing
it's a part.
