Jinis Petras Cheistas was all I saw upon entering as in the Berlin Museum in the
early fifties and it wasen't yet famous.Since they were have been dozens of perfect,
smoothed over reproductions, and I have always the photo I took there, with
its craquelures linined by the light, is though come steak the frighty, as though the
painting were a living face threatened by time a loved face vou love still more in the
knowledge that the threat is there, that you mustsaor the miracle in the present
moment. Even more moving than her neighbor the eternal Nelertiti, despite the latter's
beauty, or than Grivelli's Madonna *of the key. which the Giraffe and the Cat have
chosen for their own collections in another gallery of my imaginary museum.
