Had I simply -and
truthfully -entitled
this photo « Israel 1961. »
with the grieving posture
of the standing man and
the Jeep bleeding out of
the frame, a whole scenario
would start to emerge in
the viewer’s head. In fact
the man stretched out on
the ground had sunstroke.
And the guys in the kibbutz,
expressing their scorn for
his lack of resistance, told
me « he’s an artist. »
